Mr. Fang Zengxian, noted Chinese tra ditional painter, is chairman of Shang¬hai Artists' Association and director of Shanghai Art Gallery. Born in 1931 in Lanxi, Zhejiang Province, Mr. Fang graduated from Zhejiang Arts Institute (now China Arts Institute). Mr. Fang was once vice chairman of Zhejiang Artists' Association. In 1983 he was vice director of Shanghai Chinese Traditional Painting Academy and in 1985 was elected standing member of the Board of China Art¬ists' Association. Mr. Fang specializes in the painting of figures and landscapes. His figures are always natural, vivid, full of vigor and feelings. Mr. Fang likes to travel broadly and mix with people from all walks of life. He thus draws much inspirations from them. His works is of realistic style. Among the works most representa tive are "Hard Farming", "Story Telling", "Mother" and so on. Many of Mr.Fang's works have been picked up for na¬tion-wide art exhi¬bitions and his col¬lections have been published.
